Anatase is a naturally occurring mineral composed of titanium dioxide (TiO₂) and is one of the three polymorphs of TiO₂, alongside rutile and brookite. It belongs to the oxide mineral group and crystallizes in the tetragonal crystal system. Anatase is especially known for its distinctive crystal habit, often forming sharp, elongated, and pyramid-like crystals that are highly attractive to mineral collectors. The color of Anatase varies widely and includes brown, black, blue, yellow, and occasionally colorless forms. Some crystals display a metallic to sub-adamantine luster, giving them a bright and reflective appearance. Due to its high refractive index, Anatase can exhibit excellent brilliance and light reflection, sometimes even surpassing that of more common gemstones.
